Training Rides

We love riding our bikes. We also love coffee, pizza and beer. If you’re the same, the Arch is the place for you. We have a small café serving Allpress coffee, craft beer and fresh pizza. We screen all the major cycle races and our large courtyard catches all the sun.

Our weekly training rides meet and finish at the shop. The rides are capped at 14 riders so requires registration (link below). Registration for the Wednesday ride opens on Monday morning, and for the Saturday ride on Thursday morning.

On both the led and non-led rides, riders are responsible for their own safety and Pretorius cannot be held responsible for any personal injury or damage to equipment. We insist that all riders familiarise themselves and follow the ride etiquette at all times, even on the non-led rides.

Our rides change weekly but to give you a rough guide:

Time: Coffee from 8am, roll out at 8:30
Group A:     32 km/h
Group B+:  28.5 km/h
Group B:    27 km/h
Distance: 80-120 km

PLEASE NOTE:  PRETORIUS // G!RO rides all start from the G!RO Cafe in Esher.

These are tempo rides and are aimed at confident road riders. The pace riding in and out of town is steady, then building up to 34km/h (Group A) or 31km/h (Group B) and 30km/h (Group C) in the country lanes. The pace in the lanes is sustained for 50-70km, the hills are ridden at tempo and the group continues over the top of the hills. The groups wait for mechanicals & aims to keep all riders in the group, but the overall pace of the ride will be observed.

The ride meets at Pretorius with the coffee bar opening 30mins before roll out time. Any last minute changes or cancellations to the rides will be emailed to registered riders. Please ensure you bring a pump, spares, sufficient food and if you don’t know the roads a Garmin or phone. Helmets, full cycling kit and clipped in shoes are compulsory on all rides.

Clip on TT bars, TT bikes or fixed wheel bikes are not allowed on these rides under any circumstances. This is to ensure that the flow of the group is not interrupted, and overall safety of the group. Also, please no compression gear!
